NBA Trivia Questions
Questions about how basketball actually works, where each club plays and which team took a given Finals in a named year. Nothing here depends on this season's standings.
Keys 1-4 pick an answer, Enter moves on. Nothing is saved to an account.
NBA trivia usually falls apart within a year because it is written around records and career totals, and those move. This set is built the other way round. It asks what a rule says, how long the shot clock runs, which city a franchise left, which arena a team calls home and who won a specific Finals in a named past year.
That makes it usable at a quiz night in any season. A table of casual fans can handle the easy round on cities and scoring, while the hard round rewards anyone who knows that the Kings started in Rochester or that the Nationals won in 1955 before becoming the 76ers. Every answer carries a short note explaining the reasoning, so the host can settle an argument without reaching for a phone.

Common mistakes in nba trivia
- The NBA was founded in 1946.
The Basketball Association of America began in 1946. The NBA name dates from the 1949 merger with the National Basketball League.
- An NBA player fouls out after five fouls.
Six personal fouls disqualify an NBA player. Five is the college basketball limit.
- The three-point line has always been part of basketball.
The NBA only adopted it for the 1979-80 season, borrowing the idea from the ABA.
- The Los Angeles Lakers were named for lakes in California.
The club began in Minneapolis, in the land of ten thousand lakes, and kept the name after moving west in 1960.
- The shot clock runs for thirty seconds.
The NBA shot clock is twenty-four seconds. Thirty is used in some other competitions, and the NBA has used twenty-four since 1954-55.
Running this round at a quiz night
Run the NBA round early in the night, because the easy questions get a mixed table scoring and settle everyone in. Read the four options for arena questions slowly, since the buildings have all been renamed at least once and teams will shout the old name. Keep the rules questions together as a block so players get into the rhythm of counting seconds. Warn the table up front that no question asks who holds a record, which stops the endless statistics arguments before they start. For a tiebreaker, use the distance to the three-point line at the top of the arc: everybody guesses, nobody knows, and the closest number wins outright.
Frequently asked questions
Will these NBA questions go out of date?
No. Nothing here asks who holds a record, who leads a category or who is champion right now, because those answers change. Every question is settled: a rule, a dimension, a city, an arena or a Finals result from a named past year.
How many NBA questions should go in one quiz round?
Ten is the standard round length at a pub quiz. Take four easy, four medium and two hard so the table scores steadily and still has something to argue about at the end.
Are these too hard for casual fans?
The easy fourteen are fine for anyone who has watched a game on television. If your group is mostly casual, run the easy and medium bands and keep two hard ones in reserve as tiebreakers.
