A hard question is not a trick question. The difference matters: a trick question hides the answer in the wording, while a hard question is fair, clearly asked, and simply requires knowing something most people do not. Every question below is the second kind. Read one out and the room goes quiet, then somebody gets it and the table erupts.

These are drawn from the hard tier of all thirty topics, so the round moves from chemistry to medieval history to film without warning. That spread is deliberate. A hard round on a single subject rewards the one specialist in the room; a hard round across everything rewards the team that reads widely.

Use one of these as a tiebreaker round when two tables finish level, or as the fourth round of five when the scores are too close and you want to open a gap.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a trivia question hard rather than unfair?

A hard question is clearly worded and has one defensible answer that a knowledgeable person could reach. An unfair question depends on a technicality, a trick reading, or information nobody could reasonably have.

How many hard questions belong in a quiz?

Usually one round in five. Any more and the scores compress at the bottom, which is less fun than it sounds because nobody feels they are in the game.

Do you have tiebreakers?

Yes. Every topic page lists three numeric tiebreaker questions where the closest guess wins, so a tie never survives to a second round.

Where these come from

Each question above links to the topic it belongs to, where you will find the full set at three difficulties along with tiebreakers and host notes. General KnowledgeGeographyScienceHistoryMovieMusicFunnySportsUS HistoryAnimalFood and DrinkMath
