US States Map Quiz
A blank map of the contiguous United States. We name a state, you click it.
Click
Three wrong clicks and the answer is highlighted, so a stuck round keeps moving.
Naming the fifty states is a memory test; placing them is a geography test, and the two scores are rarely the same. The map below covers the contiguous forty-eight, since Alaska and Hawaii sit off the frame at this scale.
The eastern seaboard is where clicks go wrong, because eight states are packed into an area smaller than Montana. The other reliable trap is the block of rectangles: Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Nebraska look interchangeable to anyone who has not driven through them, and Iowa and Ohio swap places in most people's heads at least once a round.
Take the coasts first, then work inward; the middle is easier once the edges are anchored.

Frequently asked questions
Why are Alaska and Hawaii not on the map?
Both sit far outside the frame of the contiguous states. Including them would shrink the other forty-eight to the point of being unclickable.
Which states do people misplace most?
The small New England states, and the rectangular block of Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Nebraska. Iowa and Ohio are also swapped constantly.
Is there a version without the map?
Yes. The Name All section has typed rounds for all fifty states and for every state capital.
Prefer typing to clicking?
The Name All rounds give you a list and a box instead of a map. 50 US StatesUS State CapitalsCountries of AfricaCountries of South AmericaFlags of the World
